Jesus Will Lift You Up
We usually read verses like this and think God is going to chop me up if I don’t produce. “2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit” (John 15:2 NKJV). Before beads of sweat start appearing on your forehead, let’s look at that word of “takes away.” In Vine’s Dictionary, the first definition of the Greek word is “to raise, take up, lift, and draw up.” This is more in line with the grace of God working through Jesus. He doesn’t cut it off and take it away; He lifts it up and props it up.
When I was growing up, we had a couple of peach trees, They got so heavy with peaches and it concerned my dad, so he propped them up until we could harvest the fruit. Sometimes we need a little propping up to get the fruit producing. Jesus isn’t casting off anyone, anytime. He wants us to produce because fruit is for the use of others. When people see your good fruit, they give glory to God for His work in you.
